💡 Tip for English speakers This is the "if clause" of the third conditional: Si hubiera hablado con ella, todo habría sido diferente (If I had spoken to her, everything would have been different). Also used with ojalá to express regret: Ojalá hubiera estudiado más (I wish I had studied more). The -se alternative (hubiese, hubieses…) is also correct but less common.
